Construction of a multi-purpose cultural and sports facility by Design and Build and Briand Construction, comprising :
– A large auditorium designed to host cultural shows, concerts and sports matches, with a capacity of 3,810 spectators in handball configuration, 4,037 spectators in basketball configuration, 4,198 spectators in seated/standing concert configuration and 3,390 spectators in seated show configuration.
The futuristic design of the semi-underground facility, just under 17 metres high, will be environmentally friendly, with a green roof open to the public, a garden and a belvedere with a view of the cathedral.
Steel is used extensively in this project, notably in the imposing Briand Métal framework and its ten mega-beams supporting the roof-garden, and in the suspended façade opening onto the Chartres skyline. In XXL format, the 1,500t steel structure with a 58m span was one of the most delicate operations on this impressive site.
Alphametal completed the services on this site with the Chambord-type staircases, joinery, pergolas and interior and exterior glazed railings.
